Sunday Sketch February 26th

It's Sunday and time for another Sketch!  I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying sharing my sketches again.  I feel like 2011 just kind of got away from me and am very glad to be back to the "business" of sketching.  I really enjoy seeing what many of you do with my sketches, so you know the drill, leave me a link and I'll drop by to see what you have been up to.
I have had Crate Paper's Random collection "hidden" in my scrap stash for a few months now.  I think I often hide my supplies just so that when I find them again, it is like opening a Christmas present.  Obviously today was full of fun surprises, because I also found these photos of my kids.  Based on my own experience, I recommend cleaning out the stash more often than not - LOL.
I love this denim paper and how it looks with the bright pinks, teals and mustards in the collection and especially how it looks with the pink baker's twine from The Twinery.  There is something about denim and twine...
So I have to admit that I broke down and found a typewriter.  Who knew it would be so much fun and that you can actually load die cuts of just about any shape.  This scalloped one rolled right into the typewriter and was actually easy to space the words.  Normally I write on my pages, but lately, I have been thinking it would be a nice change to use printed type, but I also know that I am not clever enough to figure out how to run these through my printer, so there you go.
I used a clear glue from Tombow to get the twine to stick to my pages in this winding pattern.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Little Yellow Bicycle February March Sketch Challenge and NEW Saturdays Page

Little Yellow Bicycle's Saturdays collection has got to be one of my VERY favorites!  I love reds and blues and this collection features a deep red and denim blue that is perfectly grounded in browns and creams, but I'll let you be the judge. I also love how the Saturdays collection can easily be used for either gender, but I keep channeling masculine pages. I just love the pops of red in this collection and how it is grounded in blues and browns, which I think are perfect for stuff that guys like to do.  This is my husband and our son hiking, and then a smaller picture of our campsite
I created this little flag trio with the chipboard shaped banners and then tied a bit of velvet floss around them.  flags are such a fun cluster and I finished these off with a bit of coordinating bling.
I am totally smitten with velvet embroidery floss.  This deep red color has a wonderful soft and richness about it and is meant to compliment the pops of red in the Saturdays collection.  I added a basic running stitch around the border of the brown paper as shown in the sketch.  Since this is a masculine page, I layered chipboard shapes instead of flowers.
For the title, I used the corrugated alphabet from the Wonder & Wishes collection.  Then I layered a few of the Fresh Verse stickers for an added journal sentiment.
The Tear Out Tickets make a great focal element on a page and provide an opportunity to add some hand written journaling.  I like how these have lines, so I write neatly.

Here is the sketch and details.  I hope you will jump into our challenge at Little Yellow Bicycle.

Sunday Sketch February 19th

Let's have some fun with bits of paper this week. Challenge yourself to try to use some color blocking with different patterns and elements and layer them underneath your photos.  You could even make them into banners if you like, but I think the rectangles are kind of fun too.  Add some pop dots to make them stand out.  Change stars to flowers or something else for a more feminine page.  Have fun!
This page was created with the Simple Stories Awesome Collection with just a bit of Year.o.graphy Basics.  I used the 3 x 4 journal cards to layer underneath my photos and then added the license plate border from the Awesome 12 x 12 Fundamental Cardstock stickers.  Added some pop dots to make it come off the page a bit.
How fun are these striped sticker letters from the Simple Stories Awesome 12 x 12 Expressions Cardstock Stickers???  I like the effect from the lighter colored stripes.  Added a few of the journal strips from the same sticker sheet with pop dots.
Just a bit of bling to polish the stars and provide a little dimension.  The ledger paper is from the Year.o.graphy collection, but everything else if from Awesome.

Thank you for stopping by today and drop me a link if you use the sketch so I can stop by and leave your some love.

LYB Swoon Mini Album and Cycling Team Call

Little Yellow Bicycle has a beautiful NEW wedding/anniversary/love collection called Swoon.  It has so many beautiful elements including the foil paper that I used to create the cover of this mini album.
I have not scrapped many of my wedding photos, just a few here and there, but the bulk of the photos sit in a photo album - untouched, so I thought it was time to get them out.  I did however want to keep the album simple.  Here, I documented the event with one of the Swoon Journal Cards and embellished with the Paper Flower Kits
Picture of us signing the marriage certificate with the Reverend who married us. I love the angle of the shot and thought the sentiment from the Swoon Page Kit was a good addition.
You can see the notes of the wedding march song in this paper.  I used some of the Swoon Page Kit elements that come with this collection for this page in the album.
My husband's parents. I love that this collection is all shades of white, black and gray so that the bits of color from our wedding pop against the papers.
The Swoon Collection has a beautiful butterfly motif throughout the collection.  I added a few here for good measure.  The Fresh Verse stickers also make it easy to add sentiments like this one about our wedding party.
This photo was taken as we were heading back to the gondola to take us back down the mountain to the reception and again I used the beautiful foil paper.

Come Ride with Little Yellow Bicycle!

Here's what we're looking for:
With each new collection we like to invite a few new designers (about 3-5 per collection) to come design for us.  We ask Cycling Team members to commit to a month of designing after the collection is released. In return, we'll send you some free product and shamelessly promote you along with ourselves on our blog and facebook page.  Read the details below:

1) Make at least one project with what we send you - a layout, some cards, a mini album, an altered item...whatever makes you happy!

2) Send us some pictures of it, and a little write-up or how-to of how you created it.

3) Post it on your blog, facebook page and any online galleries you belong to. We'll put it here on our blog too, of course!

That's it!

Tryouts for this team are starting RIGHT NOW!
If you are interested, please send us three (3) samples of your best work (preferably with LYB products because that is what we like to look at most, however it's not a deal breaker if you send something else) to LYBCyclingTeam@yahoo.com.  Also, if you have previously designed for a Cycling Team, please feel free to apply again!  We'll announce the NEW Swoon Cycling Team on February 28th.  Please include your contact information (address, phone and blog) in your email.

And then we'll ask you to hop on that Little Yellow Bicycle and pedal your heart out!

Hope that you will check out the Cycling Team Call!

Have a wonderful weekend -

Sunday Sketch February 12th

Let's use up some photos this week!  I love to mix wallet-sized photos with 4 x 6 photos.  Thought this would be a fun way to stack them and help the eyes move around the page.  I'm still wishing for warmer weather, so butterflies and flowers again this week.  Drop me a link if you use this sketch so I can admire your work.
This is another page from the Simple Stories Fabulous collection.  The bright summer colors against the cream ledger paper is a great contrast.  I'll admit that this is not the best photo of my project since I had to pack this up and send it off to CHA the morning after I created it, so I took the photo at night - sorry bout that.
It's really fun to mix the 12 x 12 Expression Cardstock Sticker journal sentiments with the stickers from the Year.o.graphy collection.  This was supposed to be the month of May, but I like the way it started off my journal sentiment - stretch your collection into clever titles.
There are some really fun 3 x 4 and 4 x 6 journaling elements in this collection that can easily be cut up and layered to make unique design ideas on a page. I made the large banner out of patterned paper and then layered it with the 3 x 4 card and the cut the smaller flags from a 4 x 6 journal card.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Sunday Sketch February 5th

Ready for another sketch?  I don't know about you, but I am a bit tired of winter, so I thought it would be fun to play with some flowers and butterflies.  I also like the idea of layering journal elements and adding some hand stitching for butterfly trails.

I'm so excited about the Hello Spring Collection from Little Yellow Bicycle.  It takes your Spring pastel color palette and punches it up with a bright twist.  I really love all the fun elements with this collection.  Not to mention this super fun die cut with the multiple patterned scallops.
Ever since I found velvet embroidery thread, I am totally hooked on how fun the fiber looks on a page.  This bright green color really adds some dimension to my butterfly trail and it looks so fun with the bright colors of the Hello Spring Collection.
Little Yellow Bicycle always makes really fun journal elements with cards and stickers.  I used one of my old flower punches and some jewel stickers to decorate this element.

I'll look forward to some of your interpretations, just drop me a link and I'll stop by -

Have a great week!

Baby Saurus Mini Album with LYB

I made this album a little while ago and realized I had not posted it on my blog.  I really like to make mini albums, even thought it is what you would call a stamina project.  This Baby album was created with Little Yellow Bicycle's Baby Saurus collection and a Want 2 Scrap chipboard album.
This chipboard album was particularly fun because the letters are stacked to open into pages which made it easy to make each letter its own pattern.  I used some of Tombow's Mono Aqua glue to attach the Denim Bakers Twine from The Twinery.  The Twine border really makes the letters pop.

The Little Yellow Bicycle Chipboard Sliders are a fun way to customize a sentiment and since they are a good size make a nice option instead of adding a photo.
I just love baby feet.  These are my son's baby feet, which are just so squeezable.  Even though they are considerably bigger at his current age, I still like to squeeze them whenever he slows down long enough for me to do that.

I also love  baby hands.  It was fun to add the Little Yellow Bicycle Canvas Borders along with the Mini Banners to this page.  Mini Albums are so much fun to decorate!
This page is a combination of journal cards and felt sliders, which was a great embellishment for this little mug shot.  I think the Baby Saurus collection is one of my all time favorite baby collections.  All of the parts are so perfectly baby.
The Little Yellow Bicycle Tear Out Tickets are great for adding both a pre-printed sentiment and something in your own handwriting.
These little felt sliders are simply adorable.  I love how they look as the border to the photo and oh are they easy to attach to a project.  I just used a couple of glue dots to hold them in place.  The felt is such a nice texture contrast to the cardstock paper and stickers for a unique and "handmade" feel to the project.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!
