Keep Truckin'

I've had the Abbey Road collection from My Mind's Eye sitting in my stash for a while, so I pulled it out yesterday with the intent of playing along with their sketch challenge this month.  The sketch is so simple that I was not sure exactly what I was going to do with it to dress it up.  Then I got the idea of making the large circle into a stitched shape to go along with the Round and Round collection... So, I downloaded some clip art of a truck, printed it out, layed it over a cardstock based and then punched holes through the design of the truck.  It took me about an hour to handstitch the design into the cardstock, but I love how it looks against the linen-like paper.  Basically this is the sketch flipped and with a truck instead of a large circle.  Although I might have strayed a bit....

I used some of the flocked chipboard alphabet that came with the Red Lush collection (also in my stash) and love how the texture and font of the letters look with this project.  I also used one of the chipboard "no parking" circles as my hubcap.

This was a fun cluster to create.  The cardstock die cuts combined with the chipboard accents made a cute little message.  I also used my Epiphany Crafts Button Studio to add the customized button with some patterned paper from the Round and Round collection.

Love how well the paper, die cuts and chipboard add so much color and movement to this page.  The arrows are particularly fun.  I added another hubcap with one of the cardstock die cuts.  They center nicely in the middle of the stitching.

February Sketch Challenge at Little Yellow Bicycle

This month is all about the brand new Twig Collection - which I have to say is one of my very favorites.  All you have to do is create a page based on this sketch with the new Twig Collection or any other LYB collection and link it to the facebook page or email it to contest@mylyb.com by February 28th. 

This was such a fun page to create.  I love the earthy colors of he Twig collection.  My family spends a lot of time playing outside and the blues, browns and greens are a wonderful palette to capture these beautiful moments, especially for these photos of my daughter lying in the grass.

The loose journaling cards are beautifully detailed and perfect for capturing your thoughts.  I used the prompts on the card to respond about my daughter and I really appreciate how the jouranling cards encourage you to use your own handwriting.  Then, I dressed it up with a Flower Button Dot and a Glittered Chipboard Leaf.

I just adore the Dimensional Stickers with Glitter Accents, because the butterflies are absolutely gorgeous and add so much movement and texture to a project.  I simply inked the edges and added some Jewel Stickers for the body.  The Mini Banners also add just the right amount of fun to a page and I love how they are already pop-dotted and ready to go.

Twine seems to be the perfect compliment to the Twig collection.  I wrapped some around my photos a few times and used one of the Chipboard Buttons as a clasp. Isn't it adorable how the design of the buttons are the growth rings from a tree?

Sugar Smacks with Nikki Sivils

It's getting closer to Valentine's Day and I am totally loving the Sugar Cookie collection from Nikki Sivils.  It is the perfect recipe for chocolatey fun and has enough whimsy to make a great page of my daughter trying on her favorite lip gloss, thus the title Sugar Smacks.  All of Nikki Sivils latest collections will be available at scrapbook.com and a Cherry on Top.

I love playing with the cardstock stickers in Nikki's collections.  By varying the upper and lower case letters, the title becomes more playful.  I added one of the burlap buttons and some Zva Creative Crystals to dress it up a bit more.

Nikki's burlap buttons are one of my favorite embellishments.  They come with adhesive already on the backs of them and and easily stick to a project.

Love how you can emphasize both the pinks and the reds in this collection.  By adding a bit of red cardstock, the red accents in this collection pop.  I fussy cut the hearts our of the Sugar Cookie die cut sheet and pop-dotted a few to make them layer better.

Morning Inspiration

Isn't it fun to think about all the rituals that people have in the morning? There are so many quirks that people need or do to get their day started off right. One of mine is to eat an "apple a day." The sour taste of the apples make me feel a whole lot healthier and ready to go. Many of you know I am a huge fan of Little Yellow Bicycle and I cannot get enough of the Savor collection. It was the perfect palette and sentiment for creating this page.

The Savor collection comes with a set of banners that are ready to add to a page, but it also comes with these cardstock banners which I added some string and pop-dotted for the same effect, just with a different sentiment. The coral color jumps off the kraft background.

These little recipe cards from the Savor collection make a fantastic journal element that is large enough to use in place of patterned paper for an interesting balance to a project. I also love the softness of the paper lace border strips and the fun button flowers.

I have a really old set of Kurio chipboard letters in pale green that I found at Walmart. I gave them a face-lift by adding some metallic cream chalk to match the color of the granny smith apples. Reuse, Recycle, Refurbish....all that jazz.

I was so excited to meet up with the Little Yellow Bicycle Crew and my friend Suzanne Sergi at CHA! They are definitely kindred spirits and we had a blast hanging out. (left to right: Suzanne, Sharon, myself, Ross).
